  • 20:30-21:30 Charleston & 1920s Swing Dance Lesson for beginners by Katya from the Hague Hoppers: This is specially organised for those who are going to the Ball of the Century at the Palace of Versailles on 9 December 2024. There is no charge for this but we ask participants to donate for the Teacher(s) who are providing their time and skills to teach us the Swing dances. You can donate via QR code or cash in the donation box at the event.
  • 21:30-22:45 Open Dance Session: Put your newfound skills into practice during our open dance session. Whether you’re dancing with a partner or flying solo, the Waltz and the Charleston invite you to delight in their enchanting rhythms and embrace the joy of movement.
  • Socialise and Connect: Meet fellow dance enthusiasts, make new friends, and immerse yourself in a warm and welcoming atmosphere filled with laughter, camaraderie, and shared passion for dance.

Don’t miss this opportunity to step into the enchanting world of the Viennese Waltz and discover the joy of dance in its purest form. Whether you’re dancing for the first time or looking to refine your skills, our Social Waltz Dance Event promises an evening of magic, laughter, and unforgettable memories.

No Dance Partner Required: Come alone or with a dance partner. During the lessons we’ll ask people to change partners frequently. You will learn faster if you practise with different persons. In the Viennese Waltz, both the leader and the follower should be able to dance around the dance floor on their own – we’ll show you how.

Dress code:
Smart casual. Wear clothing that lets you move freely. No tight skirts for waltzing.
Shoes: with leather or hard synthetic (not rubber) soles that allow you to turn easily.

Admission: Free of charge, but places are limited!
Due to space limitations, only people on the attendee list will be admitted. To add your name to the attendee list, send your full name (given name and family name) and optionally your mobile number by email to info@thesocialdance.com with “SWD 02-12-2024” in the subject line. Each individual should send their own email message.
At the event, people on the attendee list will be admitted on a first-come-first-served basis. If the space capacity is reached, we may ask you to wait until another person leaves.

By attending the event you agree that photos or videos may be taken of you. If you do not wish to have photos or videos taken of you, stay in the marked No-Photo/No-Video zone(s).  Please note that Open Amare is an open space and we will not be dancing in a fully enclosed space. Anyone can enter the building and take pictures of what’s happening inside.

See you soon on the dance floor!

P.S.

Timeless Elegance: In an era where trends come and go, the Waltz remains a symbol of timeless elegance and sophistication. Mastering this classic dance opens the door to a world of grace and refinement, enriching your social interactions with an aura of charm and poise.

Versatile Social Skill: Whether you’re attending a wedding, a party, or a formal ball, knowing how to dance the Waltz adds a touch of magic to any social occasion. Glide effortlessly across the dance floor, impressing friends and loved ones with your newfound skills and leaving a lasting impression wherever you go.

Perfect Symmetry between Dancers: Among the ballroom dances commonly practiced today, the Viennese waltz is the only dance that moves quickly around the ballroom and which offers perfect symmetry between the steps of the leader and those of the follower… You will have the feeling of being one with each other! It is no coincidence that this dance is still a great symbol of love and romanticism today, as the cinema attests.

Wide Variety of Music Styles: The Viennese waltz can be danced to music by Strauss and other similar composers as well as to many styles of modern music. What defines it is only a three-beat rhythm. As a result, you’re not locked into a single style of music, as is the case with other couple dances! Our sessions offer a delightful mix of music styles, ensuring every dance is a unique journey.

Physical and Mental Well-being: Beyond its social benefits, dancing the Waltz offers a multitude of physical and mental health benefits. From improving cardiovascular fitness and coordination to reducing stress and boosting mood, the Waltz is not just a dance – it’s a holistic experience that nurtures both body and soul.

At 21:15 and at 22:00 we’ll have a 15-to-20-minute Mini Lesson of either the Polka, the Quickstep and/or the Rumba:

  • For the travelling dances such as the Polka and the Quickstep, the goal is to teach the participants how to move/travel around the dance floor with just the basic steps. If participants are quick learners and time permits, we will add some simple and fun variations.
  • The Rumba is a stationary dance and the goal is to teach participants how to perform the basic moves elegantly and correctly. A lot of dancers (both beginners AND experienced) incorrectly move forward/backward on the count of “one” instead of on the count of “two”.
