Beyond the Opening Dances:
Expand Your Dance Repertoire

Expand your dance repertoire by learning the essential ballroom and Latin dance steps that allow you to join many more dances at balls and social events.

Did you enjoy the magic of the Wiener Ball?

Many members of the Youth Committee performed the opening dances at the Wiener Ball beautifully.

But once the orchestra continues with the rest of the evening’s music — Slow Waltz, Quickstep, Foxtrot, Rumba, Cha Cha or Samba — many guests suddenly realise that their dance repertoire is still quite limited.

Instead of joining the floor, they find themselves watching from the sidelines or trying to improvise moves that do not quite fit the music.

The good news is that it does not take years of training to change that.

With just a few essential steps and the right posture, you can already take part in many more dances during the evening and expand your dance repertoire.

Join us and discover how a few essential steps can open the door to many more dances throughout the evening

Why These Lessons Matter

At Viennese-style balls in Vienna and elsewhere, the orchestra does not play only Viennese Waltzes. The programme typically includes several other ballroom and Latin dances as well.

If you know the essential steps, you will no longer have to sit out when this music is played — you will be able to join the fun on the dance floor.

What You Will Learn

In cooperation with Skylight Dance Club, we are developing a series of practical lessons designed to help you learn the essential movements of new dances quickly.

The Ballroom & Latin Dance Essentials lessons form a practical series designed to help you:

  • Recognise the music played at balls and social dance events
  • Expand your dance repertoire by learning a few essential ballroom and Latin dance steps
  • Move around the floor with confidence using the correct posture and hold
  • Feel comfortable joining the dance instead of sitting out

The focus is on practical social dancing rather than technical perfection.

These lessons concentrate on the essential movements that allow you to participate and enjoy far more of the evening on the dance floor.

The First Dance We Will Explore

During the first lesson we will introduce the Slow Foxtrot (sometimes called Slowfox), one of the most elegant ballroom dances. By beginning with a more demanding dance, many of the dances introduced later will seem easier to learn by comparison.

Who These Lessons Are For

These lessons are especially suitable for:

  • members of the Youth Committee who performed the opening dances at the Wiener Ball
  • their friends
  • former debutants and debutantes
  • anyone who would like to expand their dance repertoire for formal balls and social dance events

No advanced experience is required.

Partners and individual participants are welcome.
